CLIENT: DYNAMIC CONTROLS 3
PROJECT: DC50 - ENGINEERING
DC50 was the largest machine we have designed and built so far measuring, 2.8m X 1.0m X 0.9m. It is a device to provide a mechanical test bed for transformer testing. The goal was to provide a space that is very clear of obstructions so that the operator can easily get at and move the 70kg transformer.
To produce the structure we utilised an American system called Minitec. It was chosen due to the highly reliable and accurate supply of component parts. We specified a number of sliding elements including over-cover plus multiple air-rams, all requiring accuracy and adjustment for placement. In addition we were completing two machines simultaneously with no prototype. This put more pressure on to ensure first time fit accuracy. Numbers of custom components were CNC machined and anodised to complete the design.
